Nicole used to think she hated cake. Every birthday came with the same dry, tasteless cake and overly sweet icing. For those 30 seconds, it felt like the whole world was celebrating them. But the cake? Nicole would quietly pass it to whichever friend was still craving an extra bite of sugar.
Everything changed the day she baked her first birthday cake with her nieces. It was lopsided. Chaotic. Bursting with sprinkles. But they were so proud. That messy, memory filled cake sparked a tradition. Each year, they’d dream up a design, gather supplies, and bake the birthday cake together.
Watching their excitement year after year made Nicole realize cake didn’t have to be disappointing. It could taste like a memory.
